About the Snell Cottages
History of the Cottage
The Snell family has been on Crystal Drive for 4 generations and has been the sole owner of the cottages. The original homestead was located across the road and was a working cattle farm with cows grazing in the bluffs overlooking beautiful Crystal Lake. The dairy cows' milk bottles were left in the natural running cold stream at the base of Crystal Drive for the milkman to collect and deliver to the residents in Beulah and Benzonia.
The farmhouse and barns on the bluff still exist and the family resides there. The barns have hosted weddings, movie nights, and one of the finest vintage tractor collections around.
Around 1950 the cottages were built on the water to help subsidize the farming income. Rented during the summer months, we have had some families that have stayed every summer for 3 generations. While we try to update and modernize most things at the cottages, the original kitchen still remains. It is the last remembrance of a time gone by, we hope you enjoy it.
We take pride in being a part of the community for so long and always welcome visitors. The lake is part of us and after visiting, it will be a part of your family's as well.
